WASHINGTON (AP) – The San Francisco Giants have designated postseason star Travis Ishikawa for assignment. The team also activated pitcher Jake Peavy from the disabled list and placed right-hander Tim Hudson on the DL with an injured shoulder.
Ishikawa’s game-ending home run in Game 5 of the NLCS last October carried San Francisco into the World Series.
The 31-year-old first baseman had just five at-bats this season. He was replaced by 28-year-old utility man Ryan Lollis, who was hitting .353 with San Jose of the Pacific Coast League. Lollis has yet to play in the majors. Lollis played with Augusta GreenJackets in 2010 and 2011.
The 34-year-old Peavy is to start Friday night at Washington. He is 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA. The 39-year-old Hudson is 5-7 with a 4.68 ERA.
Peavy beat the Nationals in Game 2 of the 2014 NL Division Series, holding them to two hits and no runs in 5-2/3 innings.
