North Augusta, SC – Most of the top high school basketball prospects in the country are at the Peach Jam this week in North Augusta. That includes the top two prospects in the class of 2016 according to ESPN, Harry Giles from Winston Salem, NC, and Jayson Tatum from St. Louis, MO.
Giles and Tatum aren’t playing on the same team at the Peach Jam, but they did just play for the same team overseas. They were both on the Team USA U19 squad that won a gold medal in Greece on Sunday. “Crazy, different,” Giles said. “I’m still tired from it but we definitely learned a lot of things. It was definitely a lot of fun though.” Tatum added, “Over there, they were pros, best players in their country. Some of them got drafted in the NBA. They were a lot physical and stronger. The guys here are just as good, a lot of future NBA players out here.”
Giles and Tatum are good friends, and they say they are considering going to the same college together as a package deal. Giles said their finalists (if they were going to go to school together) include North Carolina, Duke, or Kentucky. Tatum said he is also considering his home town Saint Louis Billikens and that a decision is coming “very soon.”
Giles is a member of Team CP3 and Jayson Tatum plays with the St. Louis Eagles. As of Friday evening, Team CP3 was 2-1 in pool play. The St. Louis Eagles were 3-0. The top 2 teams in each pool advance to the quarterfinals. The semifinals and finals are on Sunday. More info on the Peach Jam HERE.
