Colorado Springs, CO – An unusual roadblock disrupted the morning commute in Colorado Springs Wednesday.
A hot air balloon made an emergency landing on a sidewalk on Austin Bluffs Parkway just west of Meadowland Boulevard around 7 a.m. Police said fabric blocked the right through lane on westbound Austin Bluffs for 5-10 minutes while the landing crew worked to move the deflated balloon off the roadway.
The balloon pilot told police the wind reports had been optimal for a rural landing northeast of town, but after takeoff, the wind subsided. The pilot was forced to land in order to avoid power lines in the area.
Police said no one was injured in the incident, and no damage was reported.
