AUGUSTA, Ga.- A new sign was unveiled at Diamond Lakes Elementary School Thursday morning symbolizing the growing partnership between GRU’s College of Education and our local elementary, middle and high schools.

The partnership is bringing GRU students training to become teachers into our classrooms.

Diamond Lake teachers we spoke with say this is a win-win for the county, college students and our kids.

Samantha McNeil, a teacher at Diamond Lakes Elementary School, says, “The goal is to provide experience to novice teachers- or student teachers and allow them to get the opportunity to work in the real world environment because the college sets up a college environment but they don’t know what goes on in the classroom unless they are in the school.”

Richmond County along with Columbia, Burke, Jefferson, Warren and McDuffie counties are involved with the GRU partnership.

Other schools will have their signs up before school starts.
