All South Carolina Counties Now Under Drought Status

Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Drought Response Committee, which met via conference call on Thursday, July 16th, has upgraded the drought status of the entire state.

Previously, on June 19th, the committee had designated 28 counties to the first level of drought. Those counties are now in the second or moderate stage of drought.

The counties upgraded to the moderate stage of drought include:

Aiken County
Allendale County
Barnwell County
Bamberg County
Berkeley County
Calhoun County
Charleston County
Chester County
Chesterfield County
Clarendon County
Colleton County
Darlington County
Dillon County
Dorchester County
Fairfield County
Florence County
Georgetown County
Hampton County
Horry County
Kershaw County
Lancaster County
Lee County
Marion County
Marlboro County
Orangeburg County
Sumter County
Williamsburg County
York County

All other counties in South Carolina are now in the first level of drought or incipient.

The purpose of the moderate declaration is to increase awareness that drought conditions are intensifying. Water systems are asked to review their Drought Response Plans and Ordinances and implement as needed.
