CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) – A second slain Marine has been identified after an attack at a U.S. Navy Operational Support Center on Amnicola Highway Thursday morning.

Skip Wells attended Georgia Southern University as a history major. The Marietta, GA – native was among four Marines gunned down, WGCL in Atlanta confirmed.

According to GSU officials, Wells attended one semester in the fall of 2013 and declared as a history major.  He did not drop out, he didn’t re-enroll after Fall 2013.

“He went to college,” family spokesman Andy Kingery told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Felt that he wasn’t called to that and felt a calling to serve — in the Marines. He got out of bootcamp about a year ago and was doing what was asked of him. We don’t understand the whys. Senseless is a word that’s used too often, but this you can hang your hat on it. He understood the risk he was taking by putting on a uniform, and Skip died doing what he chose to do.”

“The entire Georgia Southern University community is saddened by the news that former student and Marine Skip Wells was killed yesterday in the Chattanooga tragedy along with three fellow Marines. Skip was enrolled as a student from 2012 through fall of 2013.

The Eagle Nation offers our deepest condolences to his family and the families of those killed and wounded during this incident.” -GSU official statement

The Department of Defense has not officially released the names of the slain Marines.

The lone gunman, 24-year-old Muhammed Youssuf Abdulazeez, also died on Thursday. The FBI said an autopsy will be conducted over the weekend. The bodies of Abdulazeez and the Marines are currently being transported for autopsy on Interstate 75.

Another slain Marine was ID’d earlier this morning as 40-year-old Thomas J. Sullivan from Springfield, Mass.
