PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – A spokesman for George H.W. Bush says doctors are pleased with the progress the former president is making since he fractured a bone in his neck during a fall last week.

Jim McGrath said Sunday that Bush is doing better and his spirits are good.

The 91-year-old Bush took a tumble at his summer home in Kennebunkport on Wednesday and was released from the hospital Sunday.

The 41st president fractured his C2 vertebra, the second one below the skull, but doctors say it didn’t impinge on his spine or lead to any neurological deficits.

Doctors say they expect Bush to make a full recovery in three to four months.
