BREAKING: Lake Thurmond Drowning Victim Identified

McCormick County, SC — The Deputy Coroner has released the name of the drowning victim. David Fliehler, drowned Sunday evening.

There will not be an autopsy performed.

The 52-year-old man drowned in Lake Thurmond Sunday night.

Divers recovered the man’s body around 7:55pm near the Clarks Hill Recreation Area in Modoc, South Carolina.

The McCormick County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and South Carolina DNR began looking for the man Sunday evening.

Family members told officials that the man was blind and may have went into the water.

Boats searched the lake and helicopters were in the air over the campground area.
