Columbia County, GA – A man who is accused of killing his wife at their Grovetown, Georgia home appeared before a Magistrate Court judge for a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Philip West, 46, was not granted bail and his case has now been turned over to Superior Court.
The incident happened late Sunday night, June 14th in the Ivy Falls subdivision.
Captain Steve Morris, with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, said a 911 call came from the Shoreline Drive home just after 11:00 p.m. that night. The 911 operator could hear screaming in the background. When 911 called back, a man told the dispatcher he would open the door for deputies and that everything was fine. When deputies arrived, West reportedly answered the door. West had been stabbed in the chest with a large butcher knife and several cuts were on his arms and wrists. His wife, 47-year-old Sherri West, was dead.
West was in the hospital for several days after the incident.
He was released from the hospital on Wednesday, June 8th and immediately arrested and charged in his wife’s death.
