AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, Single “A” affiliate of the 2014 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, have announced they will induct former GreenJacket and current San Francisco Giant Madison Bumgarner into the Augusta GreenJackets Baseball Hall of Fame this Friday, August 7th. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place during the pre-game festivities before the GreenJackets take on the Rome Braves at 7:05pm.

“It is not every day that a player with the magnitude of Madison Bumgarner comes through an organization. He has proven to be an outstanding person on and off the field,” stated GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger.  “We are proud to call him one of our own here in Augusta and Friday we will cement that feeling as we induct Madison into the Augusta GreenJackets Hall of Fame.”

During his one season in Augusta, the 2007 10th overall draft pick of the San Francisco Giants proved to live up to the hype. In his 24 starts in 2008, Bumgarner struck out a SAL high 124 batters, recorded an ERA of 1.46, and finished with a record of 15-3. He also helped lead the GreenJackets to a Southern Division 2nd Half Title, the Southern Division Championship, and finally the 2008 South Atlantic League Championship.

Madison Bumgarner spent another almost two full seasons in the minor leagues before being called up to San Francisco in September of 2010. With the Giants for the month September, Bumgarner started five games and posted an ERA of 1.13. He helped lead the Giants to a National League West Division Championship and a National League Pennant. In Game Four of the 2010 World Series against the Texas Rangers, Bumgarner became the fourth youngest pitcher to start and win a World Series game (Bumgarner pitched eight scoreless innings). His win gave the Giants a commanding 3-1 series lead and ultimately led to their first World Series Championship in 56 years.

Since 2010, Bumgarner has won two more World Series titles (2012, 2014). He has become a three-time National League All-Star (2013-2015), won a National League Silver Slugger Award (2014), National League Championship Series MVP (2014), and the World Series MVP (2014). Bumggarner was named Sports Illustrated “Sportsman of the Year” and the Associated Press “Male Athlete of the Year” in 2014 as well.

As a part of Friday’s Hall of Fame activities, the GreenJackets will be giving away a Madison Bumgarner Bobblehead to the first 1,000 guests, thanks to Petsch Respiratory Services. Kids will have the opportunity to run the bases during the post-game festivities.

Bumgarner will join former GreenJacket players Pablo Sandoval and Tim Wakefield (Class of 2013), and former GreenJackets owner Bill Heaton and GreenJackets super fan Stan Swann (Class of 2014) in the Augusta GreenJackets Baseball Hall of Fame.
