Evans, GA (WJBF) — After 18 total seasons on the sideline at Laney (the last 8 as head coach), Lemuel Lackey makes the jump to Columbia County. Lackey is the new head coach at Evans High School, where he takes over for Marty Jackson who left to be athletic director at Grovetown.
In 8 seasons under Lackey, the Wildcats never had a losing record. He finished with an overall record of 56-33 including a trip to the state quarterfinals in AA in 2013. He hopes to bring similar success to Evans, but for now he’s just focused on the day to day stuff. “Over the summer I feel like the kids and I have bonded helping them get used to the way I coach,” Lackey said. “Change is not always easy for everyone. But I’m pleasantly surprised with their effort.”
The Wildcats open the season at Westside August 21st.
