Grovetown, GA (WJBF) — It didn’t matter how Eve Gallo pitched Friday night. Just being on the mound was a huge win for the Grovetown junior. This was her first varsity softball start since being diagnosed with cancer in December of 2013.
At one point Gallo spent 23 straight days in the hospital as she battled luekemia. But her cancer is in remission, and she’s been working hard since last October to get back on the softball diamond.
She started the first game of Grovetown’s season opening doubleheader against Statesboro. The highlight of the night came after the first pitch. The game was halted so Gallo could give the ball to her parents.
Grovetown swept the doubleheader Friday night.
