MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – An Horry County jail officer is facing charges after authorities say he handcuffed a man he feared would drive drunk.
Local media outlets report Myrtle Beach Police were on patrol at around 3 a.m. Sunday when they saw a man holding another man in handcuffs.
Police say 22-year-old Yonquraan Eric Brown told them he was a jail officer and had detained the 24-year-old because he was afraid he would drive after drinking too much.
The man told police he ran after Brown claimed to be an officer, didn’t show a badge, then told him he couldn’t drive. Police say Brown chased the man, tackled him and never called authorities for help.
Brown is charged with kidnapping and third-degree assault and battery. It wasn’t immediately known if he had an attorney.
