Aiken, South Carolina – Listen up runners, parents, and kids!

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is hosting the 4th annual Blue Night 5K run on Friday evening. All the proceeds go to less fortunate kids who don’t have the opportunity or meet the standards to regular join athletic programs.

The Police Athletic League was created to improve the lives of local children. Through the 5K run the department says they have collected nearly $20,000.  The money is used to fund the program and buy gear to keep athletes safe.
“When kids stay busy in activities, one of the things we found is most of the athletes a very high percentage of athletes that participate don’t get into any trouble. They stay in school and many of our athletes have actually gotten college scholarships for their chosen sport,” said Lt. Ben Harm of the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
If you would like to participate in the 5K you can still register at the race which will be at Citizen Park in Aiken and begins at 7:30 p.m. The Fun Run will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The entry fee is $30 for adults and $15 for youths.
