Grovetown, GA – The Georgia Department of Education released the a list of priority and focus schools in the state, and Grovetown Elementary School was the only school from Columbia County on the list.
Focus schools are Title I schools, but are among the lowest 10 percent in the state in terms of the achievement gap.
Columbia County school superintendent Dr. Sandra Carraway says there are a variety of factors that are taken into consideration.
The Georgia Department of Education looks at how students grow over time and how students compare to the state average, but she says it’s not all bad news for Grovetown Elementary School. “They will receive a lot more state funding, which will allow them to increase technology and will allow teachers to have much more in-depth training for working with students who have specific learning needs,” she told us.
Grovetown Elementary School has a brand new school opening in 2017. Dr. Carraway says the new school will be similar to the new Martinez Elementary School.
