Augusta, GA – Augusta leaders are looking at paying to plan for big changes to downtown roadways.
Over the next several years, eight big road projects are planned for the downtown area using Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) funding. Those projects involve major roadways and cross streets.
Construction costs are projected to be over #80 million.
City engineers say another $1.2 million needs to be spent on a concept plan to tie these projects together.
“And, try to come up with an overall concept for the downtown so, we don’t get a quilted look. As we move forward, also as these projects get designed and built, that we are following one standard that we have a consistent look downtown,” says Augusta Traffic Engineer Steve Cassell.
Cassell says the funding for the concept plan would would come from T-SPLOST.
