VIDEO: Richmond County Officials Discuss W.S. Hornsby K-8 School Shooting

Augusta, GA – Richmond County school and law enforcement officials held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss an incident that happened Tuesday morning at W.S. Hornsby K-8 School, in Augusta.

A 3rd grade girl at the school was accidentally shot by another 3rd grader who was apparently playing with a gun he brought to school.

We now know that the girl who was shot has been treated at a local hospital has been released. Richmond County School System superintendent Dr. Angela Pringle said the girl, whose name has not been released, was “resting comfortably at home…”

The student who brought the gun (.380 caliber)  to school was taken into custody after the incident. His name has not been released.

The investigation is being headed up by the Richmond County Board of Education Police Department, with assistance from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
