Aiken, SC – At the E Z Trip 1 convenience store, on Whiskey Road in Aiken, several people were seen buying lottery tickets throughout the day, hoping to strike it rich. One person with a winning ticket bought in March, however, is gambling with time.
Lottery tickets are a big part of sales at the store.
“Periodically. I don’t play it all the time,” said Thena Powell, who buys lottery tickets there.
Powell didn’t buy a ticket Tuesday, but when she does, she wants to know if it’s a winner. “The next day, you check your ticket or, during the process of finding out when the tickets are coming out, the numbers are coming out..” she said.
If you’re wondering if your ticket may be a winner, all you have to do is take it over to the lottery ticket checker and scan it. But, that may not work for everyone.
Someone bought a winning Powerball ticket from the store worth $10,000. The ticket was bought for the March 18th drawing and time is running out to claim the prize.
“It’s kinda surprising, ya know?” said the store’s owner, Jay Patel.
Patel says he’s sold unclaimed tickets before, worth even more. “More than $10,000…$50,000…$150,000…ya know.”
Patel says he hopes the winner claims their prize before the Monday deadline.
Powell says she knows what she would do,. “Pick it up, pay some bills, go on vacation, have some fun.”
The winning numbers from the March 18th drawing. were 14-25-30-33-47 and the Powerball was 8.
This $10,000 prize is the biggest winner from that particular drawing. If its not claimed by Monday at 4:00 pm at the South Carolina Lottery Claims Ofice in Columbia, the money go to the Education Lottery Account.
