Augusta, GA – Augusta Commissioners plan to take a closer look at whether they should be allowed to hold keys to a community center.

Commissioner Marion Williams is behind the matter. He told us that Commissioner Sammie Sias should not hold keys to the Jamestown Community Center. Williams also said parents have reported military-style treatment of kids by Sias at the center.

“Before he got to be a Commissioner, that may have been okay, but now that’s too much authority for one person to have and be over that kind of money,” Williams told us.

“We probably need to look at the policy, revisit it, and just make sure that there are no conflicts of interest,” added Commissioner Mary Davis.

Williams wants to send the issues to the city’s Ethics Committee. The issue of mistreatment was tabled. Mayor Hardie Davis Jr. says both parties can get together in a more appropriate setting to discuss the matters.
