Wichita, KS (KSN) – Wichita police are investigating after a teen was tied up and shocked with jumper cables. Police responded to the report just after midnight early Sunday.
The father of the 15-year-old boy says his son was walking near Douglas Street and Grove Street when a 58-year-old man approached him and pointed what felt like a gun to his back.
Police say the suspect took the boy to a home in the 2300 block of East 1st Street and tied him up with the boy’s shoelaces. He then took jumper cables and shocked the boy.
Police say the suspect made comments that he was robbed by the 15-year-old boy’s friends. The boy said the man smelled of alcohol. The 58-year-old suspect, identified by police arrest sheets as Robert McDowell, eventually released the boy who went home to call 911.
Police arrested McDowell. He was booked on multiple felony charges including aggravated battery with a firearm, abduction and kidnapping.
The teen was taken to an area hospital to be checked. He wasn’t seriously injured.
