Richmond County Sheriff’s Office receives check for new K-9 ‘Axle’

AUGUSTA, Ga.- On Tuesday, September 29th at 9 a.m., Sheriff Roundtree was presented a check for $8,500.00 for the purchase of a new canine.

David Alalof with The Shield Club presented the check to Sheriff Roundtree at the Sheriff’s Command Staff meeting at 400 Walton Way.

The canine is named Axle and his new handler is CST Deputy Calvin Davis.

According to Lt. Lewis Blanchard, the sheriff’s office retired one of their drug canines and Sheriff Roundtree tasked Lt. Blanchard with coming up with a plan for funding a new canine.  Lt. Blanchard contacted David Alalof of the Shield Club and they were more than happy to be of assistance.

Lt. Blanchard states, “Their donation allowed us to purchase a dual purpose canine from Southern Coast K-9 that is certified in narcotics detection and tracking. Canine Axle is a 2 year old male that was born on 03/03/13.  Axle has already proven to be very effective this weekend when he helped track down two burglary suspects at a nearby residence just after they had burglarized Bungalow Road Elementary School.”

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will receive a new canine soon.

According to Lieutenant Allan Rollins, The Shield Club will be presenting a check worth $8,500.00 to Sheriff Richard Roundtree for a new canine.

The check will be presented by David Alalof of The Shield Club at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The canine is named Axle and his new handler will be Deputy Calvin Davis.
