Teen Hit By Vehicle, Killed in Aiken County

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. – The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a teen killed in Aiken County after being hit by a vehicle.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office, along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, is investigating the incident that killed the 16-year-old female, identified as Skylar D. Pennington, of Columbia Highway North (U.S. Highway 1) in Aiken.

The crash happened early Friday morning, shortly before 7:00 a.m.

Officials say, Pennington was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a northbound 2007 Jeep driven by Mary Starnes, of Graniteville, South Carolina.

Chief Deputy Coroner Darryl Ables tell us that Pennington was crossing the highway at Edisto Road to get to the school bus pick-up stop, when she was struck by the vehicle.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning in Newberry, South Carolina.

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. – Officials in Aiken County have confirmed that a pedestrian was hit along Columbia Highway North near Edisto Road.

The call came in around 6:57 a.m.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the victim has died.

We do not know the victim’s age or name, at this time.

The road is currently blocked off.
