Columbia County, GA – Due to weather conditions, the 2015 USA/BMX Gold Cup East Finals has decided to cancel the races at Blanchard Woods Park this weekend and reschedule to the weekend of October 30th.
The following is a release we received from USA/BMX spokesperson Nick Adams:
For the first time in the long history of USA BMX, officials say they are canceling races based on the forecast. The Gold Cup East Finals, scheduled for this weekend, at Blanchard Woods BMX in Columbia County, Georgia will be canceled and moved to the weekend of October 30th.
The Friday practice and race schedule will remain as scheduled. The forecast appears to be accommodating for this evening and we know that people are already onsite.
The rains the area has experienced the past weeks, the saturated ground, and the forecast have made this difficult decision easier.
The effects of Hurricane Joaquin are expected to dump large amounts of rain in the Augusta area and we don’t anticipate being able to complete the Finals.
“We are known for running races in all conditions, but hurricanes are not something to play in,” said CEO BA Anderson, CEO. “We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused our membership and thank the track crew and parks staff for their cooperation and efforts in preparation for the weekend,” continued Anderson. “We look forward to a successful event the end of the month.”
Riders who are pre-registered for the weekend will automatically be transferred to the October 30th weekend. Should you wish to cancel that registration you can contact the office or do so Friday at the USA BMX trailer.
