Edgefield, SC – After days of heavy rain and strong winds, it appears that recovery efforts are nearly finished in Edgefield County, and that life is finally returning back to normal.
Traffic in downtown Edgefield was flowing smoothly Monday morning. Even though rainfall has decreased significantly, Edgefield Emergency Management Director Suzy Spurgeon is still urging people to use caution when heading out on the road.
“With the ground already being saturated, it’s weakening the root system of the trees. So just be careful that some of the trees could still fall. ” said Spurgeon
We came across one of those downed trees on Lynch Street near downtown Edgefield. Spurgeon says it is one of the last trees that are down in Edgefield County after a weekend of heavy rain and blustery conditions. High winds have caused some downed trees across Edgefield County in addition to the three to eight inches of rain that fell, but all things considered, Spurgeon says that Edgefield County has dodged a bullet.
“Edgefield County got really lucky. Other than trees down and some minor flooding, we really didn’t experience a lot of damage.”
