Thousands of bras… just one cause.
“We just had 7,300 bras dropped off, so we are probably looking at abour 10,000 bras this year,” Christine Fredriksen of Join The Journey explains.
Join The Journey is giving breast cancer survivors hope all across Southeast Minnesota, one bra at a time.
“Join The Journey came beside me from the day that I was diagnosed all the way until now,” breast cancer survivor, Karla Mees, says of her diagnosis in 2014. “I was totally blindsided by it. I understood what was going on, but all of a sudden it became very personal to me.”
Now in the clear, Karla has a message to anyone in fear of being checked out. “Get your mammogram. I was not going to have my mammogram last year, and I had the feeling that I needed to go get it, and I did. I have to say that because I got my mammogram, I’m alive today.”
Her courage stands with others as a beacon of hope, towering high above Highway 52.
“When people see this, we want to raise awareness. We want women to see it and say, ‘you know what? It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, look at all the bras. I need to schedule my annual mammogram. I need to do my monthly self-checks’,” Fredriksen clarifies about the project. “But sure, we also want people from the roadway to say, ‘What is this!’”
It’s thousands of bras, inspiration after inspiration.
This is the seventh year Join The Journey is stringing up “Bras For A Cause”.
