Elderly Aiken County Woman’s Cause Of Death Released

Aiken County, SC – Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton has released more information concerning an elderly woman whose body was found in a pond Tuesday evening in Aiken County.

The woman’s identity has been confirmed to be 83-year-old Sara Eidson Setzer, of Outing Club Road, in Aiken.

Autopsy revealed that Setzer drowned and her manner of death will be ruled accidental. There was no evidence of significant injury or trauma.

Setzer’s body was found late Tuesday afternoon by several young people riding on a golf cart, according to Carlton, who adds that there was no evidence of foul play.

Aiken County, SC – Authorities in Aiken County have confirmed a body that was found in a pond Tuesday evening belongs to 83-year-old Sara Eidson Setzer, who had been missing from her home for more than a week.

Setzer was reported missing in the late evening of Tuesday, October 6th. Family members reported that Setzer was last seen on Sunday, October 4th. According to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, when a family member went by Setzer’s home on Outing Club Road, in Aiken, they noticed that her vehicle was also missing. It was reported that Setzer possibly suffered from dementia and had to take several medications daily.

The license tag on the back of the car pulled from the water matched the license tag number on Setzer’s car.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 4:49 p.m. Tuesday afternoon after kids saw a car wrecked in the pond.

Officials found a body floating in the water and discovered the car was not wrecked but it was near the water.

Investigators are not suspecting foul play, at this time, and they say Setzer may have been disoriented and possibly slid down the edge and stumbled into the pond.

An autopsy may be performed, according to a spokesperson with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the investigation.

Authorities say the car appears to have struck a tree and went into a pond on Haven Place, which is off Frontage Road.

Reports of a body being in the vehicle have not been confirmed.
