Augusta, GA – Bond has been set for the driver of a truck that went into the Augusta Canal and killed another man on Sunday, September 20th.
Jose Rojas, 25, is facing several charges, including DUI and Felony Homicide by Vehicle.
His bond was set Friday at $100,000 with conditions. Under the conditions imposed by the judge, Rojas will have a curfew that starts each night at nightfall, he cannot have any contact with the other occupants of the vehicle, he must wear an ankle monitor, and he cannot travel outside the states of Georgia and South Carolina.
The man who died is identified was 22-year-old John Jones Jr., of Beech Island, South Carolina. His cause of death was classified as Asphyxia – Due To Drowning, according to Richmond County coroner Mark Bowen. Jones’ funeral was held on Saturday, September 26th at at Old Storm Branch Baptist Church in Clearwater, South Carolina.
His trial date has not been set.

Augusta, GA – A bond hearing is scheduled for Friday for the man behind the wheel of a truck that drove into the Augusta canal, killing another man.
Jose Rojas, 25, is facing several charges, including DUI and felony homicide by vehicle.
Investigators say the truck ran through sidewalk fencing and landed in the water near 11th Street and Walker Street in downtown Augusta.
John Jones Jr., 22, was able to get out after the crash, but fell down in the water nearby and died.
