Augusta, GA – A Richmond County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson tells WJBF News Channel 6 that a juvenile was transported to a local hospital Sunday after crashing a car that was involved in a police chase Sunday.
The spokesperson say, on Sunday around 1:15 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a stolen vehicle out of Burke County that was being followed by the vehicle’s owner. The vehicle was then traveling west on R.A. Dent Boulevard at Laney Walker Boulevard. The vehicle then reportedly passed R.A. Dent Boulevard and Wrightsboro Road where it was then spotted by uniformed deputies.
Upon seeing the deputies, the 15-year-old male suspect then reportedly began eluding deputies until he struck a 2015 Blue Nissan Altima on its rear passenger quarter panel while on Wrightsboro Road near Heard Avenue.
The spokesperson adds, after the hit-and-run the teen continued eluding deputies until he disregarded the traffic light at 11th Street and Greene Street where he struck a 1993 Honda Accord that was traveling westbound, pushing the vehicle into the eastbound lane of traffic on Greene Street. At the same time of impact, the car the teen was driving also struck a 2004 White Ford Crown Victoria on the front driver’s side of the vehicle.
The suspect reportedly attempted to climb out of the driver side window to flee, but he was taken into custody.
The teen was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for injuries received in the wreck he caused.
The Georgia State Patrol is assisting the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the crashes and the Burke County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the vehicle’s recovery. The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice was notified and advised of the juvenile’s multiple offenses and the case has been turned over to them.
