AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Aviation Commission voted to fire Augusta Regional Airport’s executive director, Roy Williams, Tuesday morning.
In a unanimous vote, the board agreed to fire Roy Williams, who was hired back in January and had previously worked with several airports around the country.
No specific reason was given regarding the firing of Williams, and Augusta Aviation Commission chair Cedric Johnson would not elaborate on the details of their decision. “It’s a personnel issue and our statement is that we just determined that we want to go in a different direction.”
Johnson added that Aviation Commissioners are looking at the previous executive director, Gary LeTellier, who retired back in February, to serve as the interim director for now.
We will continue to follow this developing story and provide more information as it becomes available.
