Scholar Athlete: Aiken’s Junior Olympian, Asia Johnson

Aiken High School’s Asia Johnson has won several Junior Olympic medals for her performances in the discus and shot put. But Johnson didn’t just pick up the sport in high school, she’s been perfecting her technique for years.

Johnson began participating in the discus and shot put when she was in the 5th grade. She joined the AAU program’s — known for its basketball — for track and field. Now as a senior, she’s won several Junior Olympic medals and has finished as state runner-up in discus the past two seasons.

“I just want to be great in life, and I want to make my momma proud,” Johnson said. “So when I make good grades and do good in sports, she’s always happy and she’s always got my back, so I just want to keep doing that forever.”

Johnson also play on the Lady Hornets basketball team and is a member of the school’s National Honor Society and Beta Club.

Congratulations to Asia Johnson, this week’s WJBF Scholar Athlete.
