Burke County, GA (WJBF) – The Burke County School System has released information concerning a controversial worksheet assignment issued to a class of 8th graders.
According to the statement, school officials learned about the assignment through social media.
The speed and acceleration problems were pulled by the teacher from the website, lockerlessons.com.
After school on Wednesday, the teacher reportedly contacted all parents and expressed her apologies and issued the following statement in an apology letter:
“In no way do I condone, participate in, or even want students reading terms that are not appropriate for a student in middle school, high school or college. I accept full responsibility and the consequences of my actions, and sincerely apologize and regret these circumstances and the negative image I have caused Burke County.” Bottom line, the teacher made an error in judgement by not thoroughly reviewing the content in some of the word problems. The matter will be addressed and handled appropriately according to Board policy.”
