(AUGUSTA,GA) A major makeover is finally coming to an historic Augusta bridge.
The city has been working on getting the Butt Memorial Bridge renovated for nearly three years
The project has gone out for bids twice. Once the bids were too high, the second time, there were no bids.
But the third time has been a charm.
An Atlanta company is in line to be awarded the one-point-7 million dollar contract.”It’s an important cultural resource it’s important to the area it’s important to the state I’m glad to finally get it going I’ve been talking about it for two or three years it’s nice we can get a price we can work with within budget, ” says City Traffic Engineer Steve Cassell.
T-SPLOST funds will cover the costs of the renovations, work is expected to start after Masters next year and last for over a year with the bridge being shut down at times during the work.
