(AUGUSTA,GA) Augusta city leaders are not sold on running city buses on select holidays.
After we found a rider stranded at a bus stops on Veterans Day the proposal was to offer bus service on Veterans Day. the Friday after Thanksgiving and Good Friday.
That would cost an additional 42 thousand dollars for all three days money that’s not in next year’s budget.
A commission committee failed to recommend adding the holidays, though some say it should be done.
“This is something we are supposed to provide for the community and it’s a misnomer that people think public transit is only for poor folks no in this day and age you find more and more people young people privileged people so forth that rely on public transit,” says Commissioner Bill Lockett.
