Aiken, SC (WJBF) – After more than two decades with Mayor Fred Cavanaugh, the city of Aiken has a new mayor, Rick Osbon.
With his family by his side, Osbon was sworn in Monday evening at the Aiken Municipal Building. He takes the seat of mayor immediately, as they switched out the name plates on the Aiken City Council desk and former Mayor Cavanaugh handed off the gavel.
Osbon says, after months of campaigning, the real work begins now. “They are big shoes to fill and I’ve said, on several occasions, I’m not going to try to fill those shoes because I can’t. I’m going to bring my own shoes here, but I will certainly use his experience and wisdom to help us as we move forward.”
Osbon beat Aiken County Councilwoman Lessie Price earlier this month for the position as Mayor. She has returned to her seat on the City Council.
Osbon appeared on “The Means Report” with our Brad Means on Sunday.
