Columbia, SC (WJBF) – A special halftime show is in store for fans going to the University of South Carolina-Clemson University football game this weekend.
The “Mighty Sound of the Southeast” and the “Tiger Band” decided to join forces for a “SC Strong” halftime show on Saturday.
The halftime show will pay tribute to the victims of the Emanuel AMC church shooting, including a song that was played at the memorial for those victims.
USC’s band director, Cormac Cannon, said he’s excited for USC to combine with the Tiger Band, despite the rivalry. “Such a great game and such a great thing for our state. it’s one of the oldest rivalries in the country…yet, bringing the bands together to do something to salute our state is a really exciting and different thing about this game.”
Cannon added that the bands have yet to practice together, so they have faced some challenges considering only half of the performers are there, but they will come together for a final rehearsal Saturday morning.
The game begins at noon at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
