Victim In Deadly Augusta House Fire Identified

***UPDATED at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 8th***

Augusta, GA (WJBF) – We now know the identity of the victim in a deadly house fire that happened Sunday in Augusta.

The fire happened at 1652 Roosevelt Drive.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen tells WJBF News Channel 6 that the victim is 73-year-old Vernon Danforth.

Bowen tells us that Danforth was identified using dental records.

Danforth’s death was due to Smoke Inhalation and Soot Inhalation, according to Bowen.

Augusta, GA (WJBF). – The Augusta Fire Department is investigating a house fire that killed a man.

It happened just before 6:00 am Sunday morning at a Duplex at 1652 Roosevelt Street. Investigators say one person was in the home. They are working to identify the body.

Investigators say the fire started in the front room of the duplex.

No word yet on what caused the fire..
