Aiken County, SC (WJBF) – We now know the name of the Aiken County inmate found dead.
The coroner confirms Connie M. Presley, 24 died at Aiken Regional Medical Center Friday afternoon. Reports say she was taken to the Intensive Care Unit from the Aiken County detention Center.
The coroner says she had a significant brain injury that was non-traumatic. No foul play is expected, but the death is still under investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled in Newberry on Sunday.
Aiken County, SC (WJBF) – According to an Aiken County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called in to help in the investigation into a female inmate’s death.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office are also involved in investigating the Friday morning death.
According to a release we received, the inmate went into medical distress at 4:15 a.m. Friday morning at the Aiken County Detention Center. Deputies and medical personnel began life saving measures while Aiken County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was notified. EMS arrived at the Detention Center around 4:23 a.m. and transported the inmate to Aiken Regional Medical Centers, where she was treated. She reportedly died Friday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Office spokesperson tells us, as part of normal procedure, SLED has been called in to conduct an investigation. The inmate’s identity is being withheld until the Aiken County Coroner’s Office can make the appropriate next of kin notifications as part of their investigation.
