Update: Inmate Surrenders After Mistakenly Released

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Gregory Self, the inmate who was mistakenly released from the Charles B. Webster detention center, surrendered to deputies Saturday morning.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says Self was returned to the detention center to complete his sentence.

Self was committed to the Detention Center on a probation violation on August 25, 2015.

The Sheriff’s Office says his sentence was miscalculated leading to his inadvertent release.

He’s expected to be released on or about January 23, 2016.

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office inadvertently released an inmate after he returned from court.

Gregory Self was released on December 10, 2015 at 8:35 p.m., from the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Self was committed to the Detention Center on a probation violation on August 25, 2015.

On December 10, 2015, Self was transported to the court to appear on a criminal trespass charge and was sentenced to 90 days for the offense.

Self who is a trustee would have been released on or about January 23, 2016.

After Self’s return to jail, his sentence was miscalculated leading to his inadvertent release.

The Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking Gregory Self to return him to the Detention Center to complete the short amount of time left on his sentence.
