COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Greg Ruff threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth to lead South Pointe to a 35-0 victory over Midland Valley Saturday in the Class 3A state championship.
It’s fourth state title for South Pointe (14-1) in eight seasons, also winning in 2008, 2011 and 2014.
Ruff had scoring passes of 14, 12 and 30 yards to go along with a 62-yard scoring run. The senior threw for 165 yards and rushed for 147 for the Stallions. Quay Brown added eight receptions for 121 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
South Pointe’s defense held Midland Valley to 222 yards.
It was the first championship game appearance ever for Midland Valley (10-5). The Mustangs were led by Daniel Carr, who threw for 168 yards. Dre-Kwon Carr had for 85 yards rushing.
