Columbia County, Georgia – One local church is reminding people of the true meaning of Christmas. For 13 years, Sharron Baptist Church has been taking people on hayrides through 13 scenes of the Life of Christ. One by one, each stop during the ride, comes to life. The actors are played by several members of the church and some have been part of the tradition since the beginning. Pastor Andy Collins says some of the live scenes only take a few weeks to put together, but the bigger scene take many months to organize.
“Christmas is so commercialized. It’s easy to get busy for my family and for everyone else and so it’s kind of a way to step back and see that it’s far more than the shopping. I mean it really is the resurrects the savior that wants an intimate relationship with each person that he died for,” Pastor Andy Collins told WJBF News Channel 6.
The three-day event has brought in more than 4,000 people this year. Sharron Baptist Church members says they can’t wait to do it all again next year.
