Ridge Spring, SC (WJBF) – The Ridge Spring Police Department is asking for your help in identifying and locating a man who is accused of passing counterfeit cash in the town.
Officials believe the man went to a Cirlce K and paid with a counterfeit 50 dollar bill…then four minutes later, at a Dollar General store. Both incidents happened on Sunday, November 29th.
Chief Michael Raffield says one clerk questioned the fake money but let it slide after using a counterfeit detector pen. Chief Raffield says, instead, she should have nixed the pen and held it up to the light.
“Law enforcement does not endorse those pens. We would rather them take a few extra seconds to look for a few security markers and again if the bill doesn’t look legitimate and they’re not comfortable with taking it just don’t accept it. They have that right,” Chief Raffield said.
The suspect is described as being a white male, between 50-years-old and 60-years-old. He is said to be partially bald, 5’9″-6′ tall, weighing 180-200 pounds, with medium brown hair and a medium build.
He also suggests that all businesses keep guides on how to tell apart real and fake money at each register…and, if you have information on the identity of the man, you’re asked to contact Ridge Spring Police Department at 803-685-7411.
