BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina drivers will be getting new license plates in the coming months featuring a palmetto tree and the state motto “While I Breathe, I Hope.”
The Department of Motor Vehicles says the new blue and white tags also feature only one registration sticker.
The current plates have separate stickers in the lower corners for the month and the year. The new plates will a single sticker with both the month and year on it.
The DMV says that using only one sticker will save the state more than $800,000 when tags are reissued.
In addition, the stickers will change colors from year to year, helping law enforcement officers more quickly determine if a tag is valid.
The state also has a second motto: “Prepared in Mind and Resources.”
