AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA – Republican Presidential Candidate Marco Rubio hit the campaign trail in the Palmetto State.
On Saturday morning, hundreds packed the Western Carolina State Fair Grounds to hear the Senator’s platform. WJBF News Channel 6’s Stefany Bornman has been tracking this story, she has the latest on presidential hopeful’s Town Hall Meeting in Aiken, South Carolina.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio shared many stories that related back to his points including his personal ties to immigration, national security, and repelling ObamaCare for a system that allows the people to decide their healthcare not the government.
“That’s why I ran for president. We need a president now that understands what people are going through in this country,” said the Republican Presidential Candidate.
From the moment he took the stage the Presidential Candidate made point “after I take the oath, I’m going to go over to the Oval Office and I’m going to go right to the desk and I am going to repeal every single one of Barack Obama’s unconstitutional executive orders. Every single one of them,” after point.
“That’s how you get the foreign policy we have now. Which is betray our allies like Israel, cut deals with our enemies like Iran, gut our military which is what they are doing and apologize for America.” Rubio said and his words resonated with a lot of people.
“The safety of our nation. I think that’s our number one concern right now and making sure that our military doesn’t fall behind,” said Cindie White, a supporter of the candidate.
“Making sure that his first job is to protect this country and I think his view-point in terms of immigration is right,” Julie Adams, told WJBF News Channel 6.
“That’s why when I am president first and foremost my immigration policy will be this. If we do not know a 100 percent for sure who you are and why you are coming you will not be allowed to enter the United States of America.” Rubio said at his Town Hall Meeting in Aiken.
Among his supporters in the crowd were several people who came to learn more about the candidates views. “I had my mind made up on another candidate to begin with but after hearing him I feel real good about him,” said Connie Gabriel.
“I was a little leery of his ties to the establishment Republicans because it’s just more of the same, in many respects, but after listening to him today I thought he sounded genuine,” added Steve White.
Rubio running on the platform of starting a “New American Century” says he wants to embrace the original principles that made American great in the past. Rubio’s next stop is in Columbia for a forum on economic opportunity, where he will be joined by other GOP candidates.
