Augusta, GA (WJBF) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received its national accreditation Monday.

Sheriff Richard Roundtree was there as the department was presented with the certificate Monday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office can now apply for grants for which only nationally-accredited agencies can qualify.

Sheriff Roundtree says that going into his campaign, 3 years ago, this was on the top of his list to accomplish. “We want to be the best agency in Georgia and be compared to one of the best in the nation, to be in that conversation. And, the only way we could do that is to compare ourselves to the best in the nation. What are the best agencies around this country doing and the best practices that they are doing to make their communities safe as possible?” he said.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was officially accredited back in November and will hold this accreditation for 4 years.
