Barnwell County, SC (WJBF) – A Blackville, South Carolina man is facing charges after being arrested and accused of sexually assaulting a young girl on New Year’s Eve.
Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home around 4:17 a.m. for a reported sexual assault on a minor.
Upon arrival, deputies were told by the woman who contacted the Sheriff’s Office that she and the suspect, 34-year-old Jeremy James Thomas of Morrow Drive in Blackville, were drinking to celebrate New Year’s. She told them, at one point during the night, she walked into a bedroom of the home and found the suspect having sexual intercourse with a juvenile girl. The victim is reportedly a relative of Thomas.
The woman said, when she walked into the room, Thomas became irate and threatened to kill both her and the girl. The woman then reportedly took the victim and ran to a neighbor’s house, where she contacted the Sheriff’s Office. She told deputies that Thomas took her car without permission and fled. The victim was taken to the Barnwell County Hospital.
Thomas has now been arrested and charged with rape and use of a vehicle without the owner’s permission. At the time of the alleged rape, Thomas also had an outstanding family court warrant.
