Alfonzo Williams Announces Candidacy To Become Burke County’s Next Sheriff

Burke County, GA (WJBF) – Burke County Sheriff Greg Coursey is retiring at the end of the year, ending a 36 year run as the county’s Sheriff.

And, Alfonzo Williams announced his candidacy for Coursey’s seat Tuesday morning.

Williams is the Richmond County BOE police chief, and has also served as Chief of the Waynesboro Police Department.

Williams said he wants to hire more personnel to improve the department and keep public safety a top priority, as well as continue the work Coursey has done. “We want the people to know that they’re electing somebody with experience, somebody who’s been training for this position for a long time, and we’re ready to serve.”

Williams has already started a social media campaign as well as a website outlying his experience and goals.
