Augusta, GA (WJBF) – Concrete slab maintenance on Interstate 520 (Bobby Jones Expressway) over Sand Bar Ferry Road will affect daily-hour traffic beginning Monday, February 1st through at least the middle of the month, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) District Maintenance office.
The upcoming maintenance activity will repair eastbound and westbound bridge approach slabs. During daylight hours, both eastbound and westbound traffic will be channeled down to one lane to facilitate the project. This scheduled work should go through at least mid-February if not longer.
As always, weather conditions will affect the time frame. The GDOT contractor might work weekends if necessary.
The public should slow down due to only one lane of travel in this area. Drivers are asked to be patient and alert as workers set up lane closures and work just a few short feet from passing traffic. Expect delays for the duration of this slab replacement.
The bridge approach slabs in this area have settled over time, causing a bump when crossing. Slabs will be raised to smooth out the ride.
