Augusta, GA (WJBF) – Larry Lord paid his water and sewer bill last month minus the 6 dollar a forty cent storm water fee as a protest.
But that’s not what this month’s bill is showing.
Lord expected his bill this month would show him $6.40 behind on storm water fee instead it shows him behind that much on water sewer instead.
“When they sent this bill back I paid the storm water fee and I didn’t pay the water and sewer which I did,” said Lord.
This is significant because nonpayment of water and sewer portion of the bill gets your service cut off, something city leaders said would not happen with nonpayment of storm water.
“If the storm water payment was delinquent we would not cut off the water,” says Utilities Director Tom Wiedmeier.
storm water fee opponent Moses Todd says he’s hearing from others who are also facing late charges as well.
“It’s not isolated there are businesses getting hit with the same and I guess the city is sending out cut off notices for water if it’s not paid,” said Todd.
Wiedmeier says it’s true those who didn’t pay the storm fee saw the charge added to water and sewer part of their bills but that wasn’t suppose to be a case blaming it on a computer glitch.
“I just learned of that this week but some did get out with that glitch like I said it has been corrected it will be correct on future bills,” says Wiedmeier.
