(AUGUSTA,GA) Augusta’s administrator defending the investigation into raises received by landfill director Mark Johnson and three staff members.
Commissioners are scheduled to discuss the raises again Tuesday after nearly firing Johnson last week..
City Administrator Janice Jackson says a memo from Johnson to the H-R director in June states the commission approved the raises along with a new demolition program. Jackson, however, now says that was not the case.
“What I want to be clear about is yes we knew that Mr Johnson was requesting a raise but there is nothing in any of the documentation that would indicate that I ever said to him that his raise would be approved,” says Jackson.
Jackson is also defending having her office investigate the raise issue saying with so few people involved it did not make sense to bring in an outside to look into it.
