Barry Armstong Jr. stands just 5-foot-6, 150 pounds but his small stature didn’t stop him from making lots of big plays for Blackville-Hilda during his high school career.
Armstrong is also a stud in the classroom. Our Scholar Athlete this week has a GPA that ranks in the top 10 of his senior class. The Fighting Hawks’ running back said he has a chip on his shoulder to prove he can play with anyone despite his size, but Armstrong is motivated by more than that.
“Living in a small town, you look around and you really don’t have much to have,” he said. “You know, I’ve got too many people behind me to motivate me to do what I’m supposed to do — the right things. Going to school, getting good grades and people congratulating me, just makes me wanna do more.”
Armstrong said despite not signing with any colleges yet, he’s not giving up on his dream and plans to walk-on South Carolina State’s football program.
